What Materials Are Available For Filter Cloth?

Newark Wire Cloth filter cloth can be specified in stainless steel grades 304, 304L, 316, and 316L, as well as aluminum, copper, Hastelloy, Inconel, Monel, and other materials. Material selection should account for the application, temperature, environment, and other processing conditions.

What Is The Difference Between Plain Dutch Weave And Twill Dutch Filter Cloth?

Plain Dutch weave uses larger warp wires and lighter shute wires driven close together to form a dense filtering medium with tapered or wedge-shaped openings. Twill Dutch weave combines twill and Dutch weave patterns, creating a tightly woven filter cloth suited for fine filtration requirements.

How Should I Choose The Right Filter Cloth For My Application?

The right filter cloth depends on the material being filtered, operating temperature, environment, processing conditions, and the particle size that must be passed or retained. Newark Wire Cloth can help evaluate mesh count, wire diameter, weave type, and material so the filter wire cloth fits the application requirements.

Types of Weaves

  • Woven wire mesh, wire mesh panels, woven wire mesh sizes, balanced weave, dutch weave

    Plain Dutch Weave

    Similar interlacing as in Plain Weave, except the warp wires are larger diameter than the shute wires. The lighter shute wires are driven up close thus forming a dense filtering medium. This weave displays a tapered or wedge-shaped opening.

    Twill Dutch

    This filter cloth specification technically combines the Twill Weave and Dutch Weave described above. The larger diameter warp wires successively pass over and under the lighter diameter shute wires. Each pass of the shute wires shifts the over and under movement one wire. The shute wires are driven up close, resulting in a tightly woven filter cloth with tapered or wedge shaped openings.

    Twill Dutch Double

    Very similar to Twill Dutch Weave, but by proper selection of the wire sizes, the shute wires actually overlap each other when driven up tight into position. This permits double the wires per inch in the shute direction. This type of wire cloth is usually considered a Micronic Grade filter cloth.

    Stranded

    In this type of weave, both the warp and shute wires are made up of separate wires, rather than a single wire. This weave is woven in the twill pattern, producing an exceptionally strong and tight mesh.

Filter Cloth

Application – All service conditions should be considered when selecting wire cloth – temperature, environment, and other processing conditions often play a key role in material selection and usually influence the material needed.

Mesh Count – Please advise mesh count, or if not know, the particle size you want the mesh to pass or retain.

Wire Diameter – if known, please advise the wire diameter requested.

Material – Please specify the type of material you require:

  • Grade of Stainless Steel (304 SS, 304L SS, 316 SS, 316L SS)
  • Aluminum
  • Copper
  • Hastelloy
  • Inconel
  • Monel
  • Other

Quantity –

  • Roll Goods – Wire Cloth is available in any roll width – 36”, 40”, 48” and 60” are considered standard widths. Custom roll widths are available! A standard roll length is 100l/f. We will cut a standard roll to the length required.
  • Cut Pieces – Please advise the length and width of the cut piece and the quantity required. Let us know if you want quantity price breaks as well.
