3 Types of Materials Used In Test Sieves

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

You may not know there are several different materials used in different types of test sieves. At Newark Wire, our stainless steel test sieves have many advantages over their old counterparts. Brass test sieves were the old standard because they used to be cheaper than stainless steel, but that is no longer the case. Stainless steel sieves are durable and versatile. Newark Wire uses Pure Tin Soldered, UV Adhesive, and Welded Construction to make test sieves.

Let’s take a look at what goes into the three types of sieves and when each would be used.

Test Sieves-1

Pure Tin Soldered

Stainless steel test sieves can be manufactured using pure tin soldered sieve cloths. Pure tin soldered sieves are great for most wet and dry sieving applications including food, beverage, and many medical applications.

These sieves are FDA compliant and because we attach the sieve cloth on the underside, there is virtually no evidence of the pure tin solder on the interior of the sieve.

Because of the tin solder, these sieves should be operated under 350 degrees fahrenheit. They are also not suitable for applications using caustic cleaners or acids as that can cause the solder to corrode.

UV Adhesive

This Test Sieve material uses a polymeric UV adhesive to attach the sieve cloth to the underside of the frame. Because it is attached to the under, virtually no adhesive is present on the sieve’s interior. UV adhesive sieves are fully autoclavable and are a great choice for most dry sieving applications.

Because of the adhesive used, these sieves are not a good choice for wet sieving applications or settings that have high humidity or moisture content. These conditions can cause the adhesive to corrode over time.

Welded Construction

Amongst test sieves manufacturers, welded construction is the gold standard for sieves. We overlap the welds on our sieves to ensure that all material passes through your sieve and nothing “goes around” the cloth. These sieves contain no filler metals at all. This means that there is no contact between your sieved materials and anything other than the stainless steel sieve. These are some of the best sieves for use in sieve analysis.

These sieves are perfect for nearly all wet and dry sieving applications. The completely welded construction makes them the most durable sieves. They can come in any gradation of mesh and still be welded. They are the ideal choice for pharmaceuticals and other industries with minuscule margins of error.

Types of Sieve Materials

Test Sieves-2

The types of sieves on the market have evolved over the last several years. Here are a few points to remember when considering the type of sieve materials:

  • — Brass is no longer the standard material for test sieves due to rising costs and the general superiority of stainless steel.
  • — There are three types of stainless steel sieves: Tin Soldered, UV Adhesive, and Welded.
  • — Tin Soldered are good choices for most applications, but should not be used for caustic chemicals, acids, or at temperatures over 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • — UV Adhesives are able to be autoclaved and work for most dry sieving applications. These sieves can corrode in wet conditions that are not suitable for wet sieving.
  • — Welded sieves are the gold standard and are great for all wet or dry applications.
